Gold investment is fake! Businesswoman lost 6.22 million

A Malaysian Chinese businesswoman fell into a fake gold investment scam and lost RM6.22 million (about US$ 1.4507 million). This is also the highest-loss fraud case in Perak's history!

61- year-old female businessman from Lucky Hillview , Ipoh, who runs a factory, saw an investment-related post on Facebook on October 14 last year. After clicking on the link, she was added to several different WhatsApp chat groups. When she was persuaded to participate in the so-called gold investment plan, she transferred a total of RM6.22 million to 11 different bank accounts in 32 installments.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri issued a statement today stating that after the female businessman transferred the money, she wanted to withdraw RM2.2 million (about US$494,900) of the investment funds on January 22 this year , but she found that the online investment platform could no longer be browsed and the person who persuaded her to invest earlier had lost contact, and she realized that she had been deceived.

According to the report, the victim was defrauded through Facebook and WhatsApp . The police are investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code (cheating) . Mohammad Yusri used this case to warn the public to be cautious about any social media investment platform.
