At 11:45 am on March 17 , Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society Prasert and Thai National Police Inspector General Tachachai jointly held a press conference to announce the recent progress in combating cybercrime and telecommunications fraud, and said that the Thai government's measures have achieved significant results and criminals have been effectively curbed.

Basser pointed out that from January 1 to 31 , 2025 , a total of 31,159 reports were received nationwide . Since the implementation of water, power and Internet cuts on February 5 , the total number of cybercrime cases has been 25,487 , a decrease of about 20% , and it is showing a continuous downward trend. Previously, the number of reported cases exceeded 1,000 per day , especially telecommunications fraud cases, which has dropped significantly from the original 67% . The reduction in the number of cases is due to the strict measures taken by the government and collaboration with relevant departments. In addition, data from AOC 1441 showed that the amount of losses suffered by the public decreased by about 200 million baht in the past month , a 30% decrease compared to the amount of losses between January and February 2024 and 2025 . The details are as 'follows':

1. The number of cases of deceiving people to install Trojan programs on mobile phones decreased by 88.64% , and the amount of losses decreased by about 94.24% ;

2. In cases of fraudulent loans, the number of frozen accounts decreased by 17.51% and the amount of losses decreased by about 55.49% ;

3. In cases of investment fraud involving the Loan Law, the number of frozen accounts decreased by 62.22% and the amount of losses decreased by 97.21% .

In addition, through the government's publicity, education and warnings, people's awareness of the threat of fraud has gradually increased. Although progress has been made in some areas, the government will further strengthen border control and combat crime, and thank all relevant agencies for their cooperation. Basser asked the public to rest assured that the government will do its utmost to ensure the safety and stability of every citizen.

Police Major General Tachachai reported on recent progress in combating telecom fraud gangs. He said Thailand is working with the governments of Cambodia and Myanmar to crack down on criminal networks that use border areas as bases. So far, 5,251 suspects involved in telecom fraud have been arrested , of which 3,533 have been repatriated to their countries of origin, and another 1,718 are under further investigation. Most of the suspects are Chinese and Indian. In addition, Myanmar is a key area of concern for the Thai government, especially the Mae Sot border area, which is the main channel for criminals to cross the border illegally. It is reported that 3,652 foreigners have entered from Mae Sot since the beginning of 2025, of which about 5 % of foreigners voluntarily returned to their countries of origin. In the past, criminals often took advantage of legal loopholes and claimed to be " victims " of human trafficking to avoid prosecution, but through cooperation with the Cambodian government, Thailand can clearly confirm the suspect's involvement by verifying phone records, bank accounts and other evidence.

Basser added that the Thai government and relevant departments will continue to crack down on telecom fraud gangs. Judging from the increase in the number of arrests, various measures are on the right track, but the Thai government will not stop there. Instead, it will continue to increase its efforts, strengthen border control, and introduce technical means to improve the accuracy and speed of investigation and processing in order to completely destroy this criminal network. Basser emphasized that making every citizen feel at ease in their daily lives is one of the important goals of the Thai government. He thanked the hard work of personnel from various departments to jointly promote the crackdown on criminals.
