
The Thai government announced the results of a month-long crackdown on fraud, reporting a 20% drop in fraud cases and a 200 million baht reduction in losses . The government pledged to continue taking measures and estimated that more than 10,000 people are still active in the fraud network on the Myawaddy side.
March 17 , Prasert Chanthararuangthong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, and General Thatchai Pitaneelabutr, Chief of the Royal Thai Police and Director of the Technology Crime Prevention Center, presented the results of the operation against electronic fraud gangs at the Thai Government Building.
Prasert said the government has cut off electricity, fuel and internet connections between Mae Sot district in Tak province and the Myanmar side since February 5 , and has cracked down on scammers at the Cambodian border in Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo province since February 12 . Statistics on reported cybercrime cases nationwide show that from January 1 to January 31 , 2025 , a total of 31,159 cases were reported . From February 5 to date, the number of reported cases has dropped to 25,487 , a decrease of about 20% . The number of cases continues to decline, with an average of more than 1,000 cases reported per day in the early stage . Among them, the most common telecommunications fraud cases used to target victims have decreased by 67% .
