Lieutenant Colonel Nai Maw Zaw, spokesman for the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF), said that on February 14, 2025, the BGF began to crack down on fraudsters in the jurisdiction. On March 14 , a month later , the BGF had arrested 7,523 foreigners from more than 30 countries, and then handed over 3,588 foreigners to Thailand. The largest number of foreigners came from neighboring countries, with 2,876 people, followed by citizens of India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and other countries. The spokesman claimed that it might take six months to hand over all arrested foreigners .
